As the Lead Designer at OVO Energy, doubleyou‘s Design Director, Ben Mills, played a crucial role in shaping this mission. He focused on establishing B2B partnerships to scale and grow Kaluza’s capabilities in grid balancing and customer insights. This strategic approach aimed to create a seamless integration of technology and sustainability.

One of the significant challenges faced was defining a new brand in an emerging and rapidly evolving sector. He named the brand Kaluza, inspired by Kaluza-Klein theory, which explores the concept of a fifth dimension and relativity. This theoretical framework resonated deeply with the brand’s mission of connection and innovation. The choice of the name reflected a forward-thinking approach and a commitment to pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the energy sector.

To visually represent this concept, a tesseract logo, symbolising the multidimensional aspects of Kaluza’s vision. The logo, with its interconnected lines and shapes, placed connection at the heart of the brand. This visual identity not only captured the essence of Kaluza’s mission but also conveyed a sense of cutting-edge technology and futuristic thinking.

Ben’s efforts in branding Kaluza extended beyond just a logo. He worked diligently to ensure that every aspect of the brand communicated its core values of innovation, connectivity, and sustainability.
